Headteacher's Welcome

On behalf of the Governors, the staff, the pupils and myself it gives me great pleasure, as Headteacher, to welcome you to The Duke of Bedford Primary School website.

We are a welcoming village primary school in Thorney, Peterborough. Our curriculum is exciting and challenging, leading our children to their personal route of success. Positive relationships with our parents, wider family and community is important to us and this partnership makes the school journey as enjoyable as possible.

When any visitor walks round school they comment on happy children engaged in their learning in a calm, fun environment. We take great pride in the fact that we have a happy, inclusive school in which the children’s voice is clearly heard in an atmosphere that encourages respect for all and respect for the environment.

Excellent academic achievement is very important, but we also aim to encourage children to be balanced individuals who are confident in who they are and what they do. Positive well being is key to success and the contribution to school teams, taking on responsibility within school helps children to feel a sense of belonging with our school family and they feel confident about their contribution to the wider school community.

I feel privileged to lead a team of professional, talented and committed staff who provide well planned and organised lessons and activities.  A wide range of curriculum enrichment activities are also provided to enhance children's learning.  We have a supportive and hard working group of governors who are highly skilled in different areas.  Governors and staff work together to provide our children with the very best learning opportunities.  We encourage our pupils to be responsible for their learning, to grow in confidence and become independent.

Do come and see us at the school or contact us for further information, if you would like to know more.
